Hammett’s Collection is excited to announce the launch of their new venture: Hammett’s Mestizo, a Meso-South American inspired fusion sharing dining experience, created by multi-award winning Chef and restaurateur Chris Hammett & Venezuelan Head Chef Jorge Lugo

After the roaring success of Hammett’s Gastro Bar in Sliema and Hammett’s Macina Restaurant in Senglea, the Hammett’s Collection was ready to expand and take on a new challenge. 

Mestizo (/mɛˈstiːzoʊ, mɪ-/;[1] Spanish: [mesˈtiθo] is a term historically used in Latin America, that originally referred to a person of combined European and Indigenous American descent, regardless of where the person was born; meaning mixed.

Hammett’s Mestizo is based on this idea and offers a plates-to-share concept that explores the authentic flavours of Latin American cuisine and re-introduces them as a refined casual dining experience. Head sommelier and manager Petros Skarmoutsos has curated a wine list featuring some of the best examples of South American winemaking, while the bar showcases a unique selection of premium Latin American spirits and a truly inspirational and enticing cocktail menu. The capper to the concept is the sourcing of single origin, specialty coffees and chocolates from small farms, along with an exquisite cigar selection, available for true connoisseurs and the adventurous to enjoy.

“Coming from a fine dining background we wanted to change it up a bit and create a concept of great food in a relaxed and cool environment, whilst using great produce, we wanted to create something authentic yet unique to Malta. After establishing the Asian fusion concept at Hammett’s Gastro Bar and the Ethnic Mediterranean Cuisine at Hammett’s Macina Restaurant, we started researching for new horizons to explore and discover the South American world. I fell in love with the produce and with the inspiration from our South American team led by Head Chef Jorge Lugo, whom I’ve been working with since the times of the Villa. When I told him the idea I had of doing this concept it only led to an inspiring series of exciting tastings and discoveries of which we are looking forward to sharing with everybody” – Chris Hammett

Hammett’s Mestizo is open everyday for happy hour & dinner and for brunch , lunch, happy hour and dinner on the weekends.
