Spend Valentine’s week at the Aurora

Teatru Aurora, the Aurora Opera House in Victoria, Gozo, is holding a number of exciting events in the run-up to Valentine’s Day!

The celebrations will be kicking off tomorrow with a violin recital called Salut D’Amour, with violinist Pierre Louis Attard and his father, who is Aurora’s resident conductor Colin. Salut D’Amour goes into full force at 7:30pm.

Next, on Sunday, the opera house will be screening the 1961 well-known American musical West Side Story. Based on Shakespeare’s classic tragedy Romeo and Juliet, the musical stars Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, Rita Moreno and George Chakiris. The film won no less than 10 Academy Awards, including best picture, making it the record holder for the most wins for a musical. The screening begins at 5:30pm on Sunday.

The Cordia String Quartet

Fast forward to 9 February, the eve of a public holiday. The Cordia String Quartet will be presenting Love Changes Everything, a romantic musical soiree. The musicians will be performing a range of music from waltz to tango, instrumental renditions of electronic dance music and musical theatre.

The theatre isn’t stopping there, either! On Valentine’s Day, 14 February, Aurora will be hosting All You Need is Love, a mini-concert by the Aurora Youth Choir. The audience will sit on a stage and a dozen girls, which form the choir, will sing from the boxes. The half hour long concert will be held at 4:30pm and 5:30pm.

All events are absolutely free of charge. Also, please note that no specific seats will be reserved but for contact tracing and social distancing purposes, you must book beforehand by calling on 7904 5779. Alternatively, you can send an email on rsvp@leone.org.mt.

All the events are supported by the Ministry for Gozo, through the Cultural Heritage Directorate.
