Malta Philharmonic Orchestra to perform in Dubai

The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be making its way to Dubai to perform for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The talented musicians will be taking part in the 10th edition of the InClassica International Musical Festival, and they will be performing no less than three concerts.

The festival is being organised by the European Foundation for Support of Culture and SAMIT events and was originally scheduled to take place on Maltese shores back in February. However, much like many other events around the world, the festival was postponed due to the pandemic.

After finally being given the go-ahead, for a full month in Dubai, huge international names in classical music will be taking part in concerts at the Dubai Opera House, as well as the Coca Cola Arena. Here, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will perform on the 14th, 15th and 16th of September.

The three concerts: a run-through

The first concert, which is called Concerto Extravaganza, will be directed by Russian Maestro Dmitry Yablonsky. The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be playing works by Maltese composer Albert Garzia Xamm, as well as works by Beethoven and DVORAK. German pianist Severin Von Eckardstein and Canadian cellist Gary Hoffman will also be taking part.

The second concert, called Operatic Gala: From Malta with Love, will see the orchestra directed by Armenian conductor Sergey Smbatyan, who is also the principle conductor of the orchestra. During this performance, Joseph Calleja will also be singing as the orchestra plays the work of Maltese composer Charles Camilleri Overture and Celebration, from The Knights of Malta Ballet Suite.

For the third and final concert, Tchaikovsky – Melodious Inventor, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be playing the work of Maltese composer Alex Vella Gregory, Riħ. The direction will also be in the hands of Sergey Smbatyan, and Latvian cellist Mischa Maisky will be participating, too.

The festival will come to an end on the 26th of September.
