Spotlight on: The Malta International Airshow

After a four-year absence, the highly-anticipated Malta International Airshow wowed audiences all over the island over last weekend.

The airshow was divided into two spectacles, including a static display, which was open to the public on Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 2pm, at the Malta International Airport, and the famous airshow.

Yesterday’s impressive display concluded the show with an aerobatic display by the British Royal Air Force’s Red Arrows, who last performed in Malta’s skies back in 2014.

Crowds were treated to spectacular displays as planes from all over the world flew and performed around Qawra and Buġibba. Participants included the Belgian Air Force, the German Air Force, the Italian Air Force, Guardia di Finanza and Navy, the Swiss Air Force and the Royal Air Force as well as the Armed Forces of Malta, just to name a few.

The Airshow is a result of the strong lobbying from the Malta Aviation Society for many years, until approval was given to hold the first display in September 1993.
