Hibernians F.C. goalkeeper chosen for Guinea squad

The Maltese professional football club based in the town of Paola, Hibernians F.C. was founded in 1922, just under 100 years ago.

The goalkeeper for Hibernians, Ibrahim Koné, has been selected to form part of the Guinea National Team for the upcoming African Cup of Nations, announced the club today.

Ibrahim has been part of the Guinea squad since 2018, when he was given the opportunity by coach Paul Put in a 1-0 victory over Central Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Three years later and Koné has since been a regular member of the team and was also in the squad as his place was booked in the continental finals, which will be held in Cameroon.

“Congratulations to our goalkeeper Ibrahim Koné, who has been selected with the Guinean National Team for the 2021 African Cup of Nations!,” said Hibernians F.C. in a statement.

Guinea were drawn in Group B, where they will be facing Malawi, Senegal and Zimbabwe. They are set to play their first match on 21 January against Malawi.
