Quarantine notices no longer being sent in Malta

Here’s an update for you! According to superintendent of public health, Charmaine Gauci, those who test positive for COVID-19 will no longer be receiving a notice regarding their quarantine period.

Instead, the notice informing COVID-positive people that they have tested positive will also let them know that they and their household must self-isolate. They must then work out the length of their quarantine, based on their situations, such as whether or not they have received their vaccine booster shots. The day when the person does the test is considered to be day zero and the notice can be shown to employers.

Quarantine rules

Last Monday, brand new quarantine rules were introduced. The self-isolation period was reduced from 14 full days to 10, for those who are positive and have taken the booster shot. In order to be released on the 10th day, however, they must also be free of COVID-19 related symptoms for at least three days.

With regards to those living in the same household as the infected person may also leave self-isolation after 10 days, provided that both they and the COVID-19 positive person have received their booster shots. If not, the whole household must quarantine for the full 14 days.

Primary contacts of the infected person, who are fully vaccinated, can exit self-isolation if they test negative for COVID-19 after contact and again a week later. Secondary contacts, however, who have received the booster dose, do not need to quarantine at all. These refer to those who meet the primary contacts, such as members of the same household.
