Beyond, Soul Tide eliminated from the X Factor

Beyond, Soul Tide eliminated from the X Factor

Last night, the top 10 acts of the third season of the X Factor sang their hearts out as two acts were eliminated in one of the most intense live shows ever broadcast!

The live shows kicked off last week and with the grand final fast approaching, the 10 hopefuls faced a live audience yet again, as well as the four judges and mentors, Ira Losco, Howard Keith Debono, Philippa Naudi and Ivan Grech, competing for a spot in the third live show of the competition.

At the end of last night’s retro-themed show, two groups were eliminated. Both Beyond and Soul Tide were mentored by Philippa Naudi, with the former being eliminated first, due to receiving the least votes from the public of all the acts. Soul Tide then went head to head with Timea Farr in a sing-off, but Ira Losco, Ivan Grech and Howard Keith voted for Timea Farr to remain in the competition.

The following is a run-through of last night’s performances, finishing off with including Soul Tide and Beyond, who will not appear in next week’s episode.

Cheryl Balzan

Cheryl Balzan opened the show with Tina Turner’s hit, The Best (1989). Safe to say that she got everyone’s energy up to where it needed to be for the rest of the live show.

Timea Farr

Next up, Timea Farr, who gave the audience a beautiful rendition of the well-known power ballad Iris (1998) by GooGoo Dolls.

Kevin Paul

Kevin Paul came on stage with a stunning medley of two songs by Richard Marx. He sang Right Here Waiting (1988) and Hazard (1992).

Lisa Gauci

What a throwback! Lisa Gauci belted out Believe (1998) by Cher, more specifically, the version by Adam Lambert.

Ceci & Kriss

Ceci and Kriss gave the audience a hauntingly beautiful patriotic performance of L-Aħħar Bidwi f’Wied il-Għasel by the late Sammy Bartolo.

Ryan Hili

Ryan Hili gave the audience a super performance of Against All Odds (1984) by Phil Collins, a soundtrack from the movie with the same name.

audrienne

Audrienne interpreted Tainted Love, a song first launched in 1964, but popularised by Soft Cell in 1981. She performed the arrangement for Karen Souza, in bossa nova fashion.

Drakard

Aidan Drakard throws us back to the 90s with George Michael’s Freedom (1990), a song that was also covered by Robbie Williams in 1996.

Beyond

Luca, Daniel and Felicia, or Beyond, performed I’m Still Standing (1983) by Elton John. The trio brought their A-game!

Soul Tide

Soul Tide set the stage on fire with I Wanna Dance with Somebody (1987), of Whitney Houston. Didi, Melusine and Justine were the girl group of the season!
