Disney Plus coming to Malta this summer
As many of you know, Disney+ is the online streaming platform from Walt Disney Company and as many of you may have heard, it will be available in Malta as of this summer!
In a statement yesterday, the company confirmed that Disney+ will be launching in no less than 42 countries and 11 territories this summer, including our little gem of an island.
Thus far, the only streaming services available to viewers locally are Amazon Prime and Netflix, with many people questioning why in 2021, our streaming options are so limited. This move will therefore bring Malta in line with a number of other European countries, including Spain, Germany, Iceland and the UK, whose residents have been able to access the streaming service since 2020.
What exactly is Disney+?
Disney Plus is the official name for Disney’s streaming service, which was debuted in November 2019 in the United States, Canada and the Netherlands. On its very first day, 10 million users had subscribed to Disney+. A week later, it expanded to Australia, New Zealand and Puerto Rico.
By März 2020, it was made available in a select number of European countries, with a lot more being granted access as of September of the same year.
It has since become one of the most popular streaming services in the world, as it registered 118.1 million global subscribers as of Oktober 2021.
What can you watch on Disney+?
The service is built around content from Disney’s main entertainment studios, and film and TV library, including Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, National Geographic and Blue Sky Studios, as well as select films from 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures, Touchstone Pictures and Hollywood Pictures.
In a nutshell, with Disney+, you’ll get access to the new releases, the classics and the originals from the creators.
As of this summer, Disney+ will launch in Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Bahrain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, North Macedonia, Oman, Palestine, Poland, Qatar, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Vatican City and Yemen.
No exact launch dates, prices or subscription plans have yet been revealed, but the registration to Disney+ in Italy currently amounts to €8.99 per month or €89.90 per year.
