Lily Agius Gallery Closes with Evening of Music

This week sees the closing exhibition of the Lily Agius Gallery in Sliema, with an evening featuring improvised piano music by Yun Cai

Tomorrow, Tuesday 21 June, marks the closure of the renowned Lily Agius Gallery, a mainstay in Malta’s thriving visual arts scene since its opening in 2011, and a space that has become known for its bold and innovative exhibitions — as well as being an important platform for both established and emerging artists here in Malta and overseas.

In celebration of the gallery’s history and longstanding contribution to the local arts community, this week presents a special closing exhibition of works by various artists and features Yun Cai, an improvising pianist known for her collaborative multi-disciplinary performances and for bringing concerts to unique and unusual locations.

“This event is very exciting for me, not only due to its place as part of this closing chapter of the gallery, but also for affording me the opportunity to perform in a place home to so many inspiring pieces of fine art. I can’t wait to see where the space and audience will take me this time, and it is my hope that this performance will create a ‘bubble’ of sorts for those in attendance, allowing us all to slow down, be present and experience a moment of genuine peace, harmony and serenity.” — Yun Cai

The collective exhibition features works by Adrian Scicluna, Alexandra Aquilina, Bertrand Peyrot, Christian Palmer, Clyde Haber, CO-MA, Elisa Von Brockdorff, Goxwa, Julien Vinet, Lonkirkop, Massimo Nordio, Pascal Buclon, Richard England, Sallyanne Morgan, Skye Ferrante and Stephanie Galea, and spans various genres, styles and forms.

Future events, including workshops and pop-up exhibitions, will take place at Lily Agius’ new space in Floriana called Green Shutters. The art curator has also recently signalled her intention to increasingly promote her portfolio of artists on the international stage, as well as bringing her publication The Malta Artpaper to new audiences across Europe and the Middle East.

The Lily Agius Gallery Collective Exhibition ‘Closing Night’ takes place this Tuesday at 7:30pm, with musical performance taking place 8pm to 8:45pm. For more details, visit the event page on Facebook.
