Renowned Maltese Violinist to lead MPO Strings in concert

Distinguished Maltese violinist Carmine Lauri

Tomorrow, Friday 30 October, internationally acclaimed violinist Carmine Lauri will return to Malta to lead the MPO Strings in a concert at Teatru Manoel entitled ‘A String Symphony’

Carmine Lauri is arguably one of Malta’s finest musical exports, having secured an internationally-recognised reputation as a soloist and orchestral musician — in particular in his ongoing career as Co-Leader of the world-famous London Symphony Orchestra (LSO).

He is a recipient of Malta’s National Order of Merit – M.O.M. (F’Ġieħ ir-Repubblika), and holds the positions of Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) and Fellow of the Royal Academy (FRAM). He has performed extensively in the UK and internationally with the LSO, and has led the orchestra in many notable film score recordings for such titles as Star Wars, Harry Potter and The Queen. He has also featured as soloist for scores to films including As you like it and Joyeux Nöel.

This week’s concert sees the noted violinist lead the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra Strings in a concert featuring works by Schubert, Grieg, Suk and Mendelssohn, as well as performing Tchaikovsky’s Valse Scherzo in C Major, specially arranged by Lauri for the occasion.

‘A String Symphony’ takes place Friday 30 September at Teatru Manoel in Valletta. For full details, visit the Teatru Manoel website.
