1

Malta is going all out this year, announcing a 40-song national final. The acts selected to compete in the MESC 2023 quarterfinals have now been made public by PBS.

The entry period for the artists was from Octobre 17 to Octobre 31, 2022. Artists were free to submit as many songs as they wanted, but in the quarterfinals, they could only compete with one.

The chosen quarterfinalists include former Eurovision contestants Francesca Sciberras, who represented Malta in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2009, Jessika, who represented San Marino in the 2018 competition, and Eliana Gomez Blanco, who represented Malta in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2019. Fabrizio Faniello will also be making a comeback after an 11-year hiatus. Dominic Cini is back after a seven-year hiatus while Anna Azzoppardi is back after twelve. Previous runner-ups Aidan and Brooke have also made it through the top 40. Interestingly, inaugural Muzika Muzika winner Christian Arding is making his first Eurovision appearance after seventeen years.
