Guzeppi Briffa's artwork to be displayed at the Gozo Arts Weekend

The works of Guzeppi Briffa are going to be displayed this weekend all throughout Gozo. Born in Birkirkara in 1901, Briffa commenced his art studies at St.Elmo School, where Ġużè Duca was teaching design. In 1923, he received a commission from his grandfather to paint Canon Alphonse Borg. The Provost was so pleased with the effect that he requested him to paint two sizable panels for Birkirkara’s Tal-Herba Chapel. When he returned to Malta in 1930 after studying at the Regia Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome in 1925, he was commissioned to paint two sizable lateral panels for the Augustinian Church in Victoria, Gozo. His largest project was painting the Senglea Basilica’s dome and ceiling, which was completed in 1934.
