Four productions filmed in Malta in September
Attention horror fans! The Seed, Sam Walker’s sci-fi horror film, is currently being shot in two locations in Malta: Ħal Għargur and Fomm ir-Riħ.
The production has a budget of around €2,000,000, with approximately half of that budget being spent in Malta alone. The Seed is being produced by UK company Ingenious Group, alongside local collaboration.
The Seed centres on three social media influencers, who head out into the wilderness to party and film a meteor shower. Little do they know that their fun getaway will soon be the scene of an alien invasion.
Julia Farrugia Portelli, Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection and Johann Grech, Film Commissioner, visited one of the sites in the last few days, where they were met with the producers and some of the actors.
Matt Hookings, one of the producers, said that the filming of The Seed is a result of their positive experience last year, while shooting The Curious Life of the Grand Duke of Corsica, which will be released shortly.
“We are experiencing, once again, great help and cooperation from the Malta Film Commission,” he said.
Johann Grech said that The Seed is the fourth production that’s being filmed in Malta during September. This production in particular involves around 80 people, with more than half of them being Maltese.
“I am satisfied to note that we have continued to attract productions from different countries, and we continued to strengthen this industry. We are very optimistic about continuing to attract many more productions to Malta,” he said.
