First Apple TV+ New TV series Foundation filmed in Malta

The filming of the brand spanking new Apple TV+ series Foundation is coming to a close. Production on the series, which started four months ago, involved 400 crew-members and no less than 800 Maltese extras!

The sci-fi series is based on Isaac Asimov’s popular book series of the same name and follows a band of exiles, who discover that the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it.

Producer of Foundation, Michael Malone, said that the picturesque scenes of the Maltese seas and the water tank facilities at the Film Studios in Kalkara were crucial for the production to be filmed in Malta.

Clayton Bartolo, Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection, made reference to the past year in terms of the film industry, saying: “it was positive to note that amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Malta managed to keep attracting several productions. In fact, Malta attracted 11 productions during 2020, with a total spend of €32,000,000.”
