Attention all engineers, urban town planners and architects! You are being invited to take part in an urban design contest, to propose ways in which the southern city of Marsascala can be made more attractive to visitors.
The Marsascala Regeneration Design Contest was launched yesterday by the Malta Tourism Authority and is open for submissions up until 9 September.
The winning design will be given a contract of service to implement the project and though we are hungry for more details, none have been released as of yet. In a statement announcing the plans, the tourism ministry said that the intention of the competition was to attract ideas for different projects, sparking urban regeneration of the already beautiful, picturesque village.
Clayton Bartolo, the tourism minister, said that within the designs, priority must be given to pedestrian zones and said that the initiative was “another step towards our vision of Malta as a centre of tourism excellence.”
