Long jump athlete Jeremy Zammit breaks records and reaches European final

Jeremy Zammit, one of Malta’s most promising young athletes, has become the first Maltese athlete to make it to the European Championships under 20 finals.

The long jump sensation set a new national best yesterday, as he achieved a jump of 7.58 metres, beating his own previous record by seven centimetres, 7.51, which he set in Italy just a couple of months ago.

Jeremy is ranked as number one in the European U-18 division and finished the day in seventh place from 12 participants, to book his place in the championship final, which are being held in Tallinn, Estonia.

He is one of three athletes representing Malta at the championships, with Rachela Pace competing in the triple jump and Graham Pellegrini in the 400 metres. The latter completed his race in 49.36 seconds and the former’s best jump was of 12.09 metres. All three athletes will be in action again later today!
