First Maltese national to become chairman of Europe’s largest student organisation
We have some great news! Gozitan Beppe Galea has been elected as the chairman of the European Democratic Students (EDS), where he will lead Europe’s largest youth political organisation.
Beppe won with 98% of the vote and will be the first Maltese citizen to occupy the position. He will lead the EDS for a year-long term, alongside Ivan Botoucharav, who will be serving as the group’s secretary general.
“Humbled by this result – let’s continue to represent students and youth in the best way possible,” wrote Beppe on Facebook, to celebrate the outcome.
Over the last two years, Beppe served as secretary-general in Studenti Demokristjani Maltin (SDM), having played an active role in the organisation for five years prior.
The EDM serves as a youth wing of the European People’s Party, also known as EPP, a European transnational grouping of conservative and Christian – democratic parties, of which the Nationalist Party forms a part of. It’s the largest youth political organisation in Europe, representing over a million students and youths across 40 member organisations in 35 countries.
Way to go!
