Local athlete flies Maltese flag at Spartan Race in Italy

Local athlete Ryan Farrugia a.k.a Ryan Mex made the country proud as he placed first in two competitions at the Spartan Race in Italy over the weekend

Trail, mountain and obstacle course athlete Ryan Farrugia has pursued his passion for sports for a long time, however, over the past few years he has been putting all his effort into OCR training.

The athlete has an impressive portfolio and boasts a large number of victories; 6 times The Grid winner, 1st place in Spartan Orte Italy and 2nd place in Spartan Krynica Poland and was also the first local athlete to qualify and participate in Spartan World Championship.

Ryan took to social media to express his excitement about his OCR comeback, after two years of no competitions. He stood on the podium twice last weekend, placing first in the 21km Spartan Beast and the 12km Super Distance race, which included 25 obstacles along the way.

The athlete is currently in training for the Spartan European Championships, which will be held between the 18 and 19 September in Switzerland.
