Malta: the first participant in Forbes International Star Award

Our beloved Malta will be the first country in the world to participate in the Forbes International Star Award, which is a programme aimed at certifying hotels and restaurants to train and reward the hospitality sector for the tourism product that it offers to the general public.

During a press conference, Clayton Bartolo, minister for tourism and consumer protection, said that while it’s crucial for our country to support the volume of tourists who come to the islands, it’s also important that we make the next leap, by improving the quality of the tourism sector.

“We must turn past successes into a guarantee for the future. The Forbes International Star Award is a clear example of where we want to take this industry. This must be a sector that is based on excellence and innovation in every aspect,” said the minister.

He added that future generations, as well as today’s, expect the government to show support for similar programmes, while also investing in quality infrastructure primarily in touristic venues and locations.

Carlo Micallef, the deputy chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority, said that the authority itself is convinced that the programme will serve as a motivation for tourist establishments and locations to continue refining their products and services. This in itself is a step towards what the authority and ministry are looking at in the tourism sector strategy for the next 10 years.
