Intrigued? Yes, you read the title correctly and no, there are no typos. Komaki Japanese Tapas & Whiskey Bar, which is set to open in the capital city of Valletta will indeed be serving some dishes that feature our insect (and arachnid) friends: ants and scorpions!
The man behind the project? Maltese chef Daniel Borg Cardona, a name that is familiar to food-enthusiasts across the Maltese Islands, due to eateries such as Wagyu Bar & Kitchen, Burkers.Ink and Black Bull, just to name a few.
His latest project of exploration into Asian dishes is set to serve a myriad of Japanese delicacies as he gives us a glimpse of the restaurant’s stunning interior, as well as a couple of its rather unfamiliar yet intriguing nonetheless, creepy crawly dishes.
We’re talking about one of Komaki’s desserts called Scorpion Forest, a completely unique dish, which is garnished with, you guessed it, actual scorpions. Scorpion Forest, as well as other plates that include ants, was created by head chef of the establishment Zoran.
