Valletta Baroque Festival international acts postponed

Amid a rise in COVID-19 cases in Malta as of late, this year’s Valletta Baroque Festival will only include local musicians and artists.

The international portion of the programme will be postponed to the next edition of the festival, which is scheduled to take place in 2023. The organisers also announced that ticket-holders who were planning on watching the cancelled sections of the festival, will be receiving a full refund.

The Valletta Baroque Festival, which shines a spotlight on early 17th and 18th century music is in its 10th year, has always been known as one of Europe’s most prestigious festivals. It’s organised by the national government body dedicated to the nurturing and growth of festivals and cultural events, Festivals Malta, in collaboration with Visit Malta and Teatru Manoel.

The abridged version of the highly-acclaimed festival will be held between 18 and 28 January, 2022 at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta.

In a statement today, Festivals Malta said that the decision to postpone international acts to next year was an unfortunate but necessary one. “The agency felt that this was the most responsible action to take, in order to safeguard the wellbeing of its artists, team and patrons,” it said. They also apologised for any inconvenience caused.
