A colourful production at Malta’s national theatre

Retro music enthusiasts, brace yourselves! This February, Teatru Manoel brings to the stage a dynamic performance combining song, music and dance in GOLD: Celebrating 50 Years of Music by Sweden’s Most Famous Pop Group. Here, we give you five reasons why you do not want to miss this colourful production at Malta’s national theatre.

For the nostalgic feels

Who can resist the groove of an ABBA hit? Catchy, familiar and upbeat, the band’s music just doesn’t grow old. Whether or not you’ve been around long enough to remember them at the height of their fame, you will dig the retro theme of the performance. Get ready to go back in time with music that is as funky now as it was five decades ago.

For the vocal and musical talent

Some of Malta’s best-known names in the music industry will make up the winning cast of singers, featuring Jasmine Abela, Kevin Borg, Martina Borg, Ludwig Galea, Michela Galea and Glen Vella. Add to that a live band led by Melchior Busuttil, and masterful sound management aimed at delivering the best sound quality, and the musical entertainment promises to be top notch.

Melchior confides, “While a lot of work goes into managing the band and lining up the musical arrangements with what the singers and production team are doing, everything is made much easier when you’re surrounded by a great team of professionals with plenty of experience. Things are falling into place nicely for us to deliver a memorable show for all.”

For the visual experience

While the musical element will be a focal point of the production, Creative Artist Antoine Farrugia has taken care to ensure that the visuals measure up, with stage design and lighting that create the perfect aesthetic. In a concept evoking musical theatre that is not strictly limited to music, dancers are set to stun audiences with glamorous moves choreographed by Celaine Buhagiar.

For the good vibes

No ABBA-themed show can leave you cold, least of all a production of Teatru Manoel standards. Whatever your mood before the performance, it will be impossible to walk out without a huge smile on your face. The production team has worked hard to make sure that you will want to dance, jive and have the time of your life – guaranteed!

For the Manoel

Not only does Teatru Manoel stage nothing short of the best productions, but a visit to the Theatre is a treat in itself. So just imagine the thrill of a spectacle that pays tribute to legendary music still going strong fifty years on, performed at one of the oldest working theatres in the world! And what better time to enjoy the romantic ambience of the Manoel than in the run-up to Valentine’s Day?
