Elite national athlete Mireya Cassar has reached new heights, breaking her own record in hammer throw which was at 47.46m during an event earlier this year at the Hassloch Athletics stadium in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Her new distance record stands at 48.04m. The eighteen-year-old athlete achieved this new record in the U23 final of the European Throwing Cup which was held in Lieiera, Portugal earlier last weekend. Previously, it was the professional Antonella Chouhal who held the national hammer throwing record, but Cassar’s throw surpassed it by an impressive length of 61cm.

Mireya is currently focused on ameliorating her throws, where she will be competing later this year in June, in the European Championships for Small States of Europe that will be held here in Malta.
