Designers to look out for at Malta Fashion Week this July

Malta Fashion Week has become one of the most prestigious events in Malta, with many local celebrities and large audiences attending this three-day upscale event. The event will be back on the 20, 21 and 22 July, with local established designers as well as hot new comers showcasing their designs, at the Grand Harbour Terrace found on the roof of MCC

These are the designers that have been announced so far.

Blakkript

Blakkript, a luxury streetwear brand was designed and inspired by the nocturnal glamour that defined the rock and roll era of the 70s and 80s. Jeremy, the founder and creative director aims to create the perfect garment with a balance of minimalism and boldness while also ensuring its wearability and quality remain the top priority for clients.

james dimech

James has loved fashion all his life and has been in the professional area for the past 25 years. He graduated with BA Hons in design and enhanced his skills by following specialised courses in Italy, which lead him to become very successful and able to create his childhood dream of wearable art. His beautifully designed garments are made mostly from recycled and sustainable materials. He aims to incorporate more three-dimensional forms into his pieces and loves exploring relationships of human organic forms and the geometric form created by folds and folding patterns.

bajja

Two siblings and architects by profession join forces and combine their love for fashion, which can be seen through their brand Bajja. With their good eye for detail, Sam and Vin create collections that celebrate the colourful palette of the Maltese landscapes and heritage. The pair’s aim is for their clothing to embody the beauty and richness of local culture and make every design feel like an artwork that belongs in a museum.

Parascandalo

Marco Parascandalo, the creative director of his self-named brand, has been showcasing his designs during Malta fashion week since 2014. He’s known for his unique take on streetwear and especially takes notice of the wearability and durability of his garments. Marco uses aspects of Maltese culture, politics and environmental issues to inspire his pieces and is able to produce a modern melange, making him the ultimate social commentary in motion.

morfium

Jelena launched Morfium in 2004 in Amsterdam. Named after the Greek god Morpheus, the brand expresses a surrealistic concept and myth-inspired project by mixing archetypal with progressive design. The label represents a unique mixture of high fashion tailor based pieces with industrial techniques. Morfium focuses on hand-crafted, cutting edge fashion items with special focus on construction development and articulate details.

Charles & Ron

Charles & Ron is a contemporary lifestyle brand; high-end clothing, bags and accessories with a distinct Mediterranean flair and a dedication to superior quality. Maltese culture is an integral part of the Charles & Ron design ethic. Besides the runway and ready-to wear collections, key items are Malta inspired luxury scarves and leather bags. The handbags and small leather goods are made with the finest Italian leather and are handcrafted in Malta. The Charles & Ron collections are regularly featured on international publications and are also noticed by international colour company Pantone. 

Gagliardi

Inspired by the gregarious character who was known to many of his friends as, “il Gagliardi”, the brand embodies the timeless appeal of Savile Row, true to its Mediterranean roots thanks to its rich colour palette. The Gagliardi manifesto is simple-yet-effective and seeks to combine the quirks of modern fashion, on-trend cuts, seasonal shades and a melange of textures with a blend of luxurious, meticulously-sourced fabrics and a no-nonsense, old-fashioned approach, to quality. Each piece is finely tailored and adorned with hand-finished touches.

Ferreira Couture

Ferreira Couture is love, passion and emotion poured into creation. What started off as a dream in 1991 is still evolving and taking shape today. Based in Malta and Europe, Ferreira Couture specialises in event ware. The dresses are made to perfection and full of details. The owner, Anene dedicates her life to each dress, going the extra mile to make sure that every piece is beyond perfection.
