L-Għanja tal-Poplu Drops Finalists' Songs

The annual Maltese song competition, L-Għanja tal-Poplu, will take place on July 30 at Pjazza Teatru Rjal in Valletta

The festival will feature sixteen songs from artists who have advanced to the final night of the competition. This week, the running order of songs was revealed.

The Youth Travel Circle (YTC) has been running this Maltese pop and modern folk song competition since 1973. Singer/songwriters were drawn to the event, which was held annually for five years in a row until 1987. However, the festival was initially only open to YTC members. The festival was postponed in 1988 and 1989 before returning in 1990 with revised guidelines that allowed performers who were not YTC members to compete, as long as they sang and wrote in Maltese to take part. With the exception of 1991 and 2001, the festival started airing on regional television stations in the 1990s, becoming an annual national music event.

The festival is being organised with the assistance of Arts Council Malta and the Valletta Cultural Agency, in partnership with Pjazza Teatru Rjal.
