Local rock 'n' roll musical makes a comeback

The smash-hit musical Il-Kbir Għadu Ġej will finally rock the MCC stage again during late July and August

There is no need to introduce the brilliance who is Freddie Portelli, the Malta’s very own music icon. He is credited with making Maltese rock n’ roll sound great yet authentic, which was not as common back in the day.

Just like its first run in 2019,  ‘Il-Kbir Ghadu Ġej’, a musical that will be featuring all of Freddie Portelli’s music hits, is inspired by the likes of two well-known Juke Box musicals worldwide;  ‘We Will Rock You’ by Queen and ‘Mamma Mia’ by ABBA, ‘Il-Kbir Ghadu Gej’, and is guaranteed to be a showstopper like no other.

The musical is written by local powerhouse Malcolm Galea and directed by Sean Buhagiar, who has once again returned to director’s chair after his success with the sold-out production of Balzunetta Towers. Dominic Galea will be in charge of the the live band.

Some of of Malta’s top performers are scheduled to appear, including Kevin Borg, reprising his role as “Il-Kredu,”. He’ll be rocking and rolling alongside actors like Amber as “Lourdes,” Marilena as “Georgette,” Luke Dalli and Max Dingli as “Il-Bum u l-Bummer,” Colin Fitz as “Kurun,” Mark Tonna as “Alfred,” Debbie Scerri as “Zija Pawlina,” Michela Galea.

Most of Freddie Portelli’s songs are bestsellers, with Mur ħallini being possibly the most popular Maltese rock n’ roll song ever produced. Viva Malta, Xewqat Sbieħ, Se Jkolli Nemmen and Għal Dejjem will undeniably feature, but it will even feature lesser-known jewels like Bħalek hawn kemm trid, Ma taħraqni B’xejn and Dak ir-Rock n’ Roll.

If you’re into Maltese rock n roll, you do not want to miss this!
