World-renowned multidisciplinary artist Marinella Sentore extends exhibition viewings in Malta

Something About You, a 10-year-survey exhibition by Marinella Senatore, curated by Sara Dolfi Agostini, is extended until July 23 at Blitz in Valletta

Multidisciplinary artist Marinella Senatore aims to rethink the political nature by bringing together individuals and collective bodies that are frequently seen as dichotomous entities in capitalist culture. Thus, Senatore has developed a methodology that delves into practices of non-hierarchical learning and participatory art, exploring forms of resistance, vernacular and popular culture, dance, music, and activism. This is where her new exhibition ‘Something About You’ comes in.

A new site-specific sculpture, a potent piece of public art, videos, paintings, sketches, and other mediums are all brought forward in Something about you. The artwork is a charming throwback, bringing to mind the Maltese tradition of using festoons, luminaries, and light installations to celebrate community during village festas and yearly festivities.

The exhibition is meant to be a tribute to everyone who has ever entered an art space; from museum goers to passersby who come across sculptures in public spaces. They are in the centre of the artistic action according to Senatore. She steps down from the pedestal of the educator as she creates entry points, crossroads, and junctions to interact with people and their individual stories and establishes the groundwork for dialogue, a two-way exchange designed to promote growth – and awareness – for all parties involved.

At a time when group effort appears to be the most effective strategy for a fresh start, this exhibition aims to spark discussion in Malta.
