The festa season in Malta reaches its peak in the middle of August, when thousands gather together to celebrate the much-loved feast of Santa Maria. Celebrated on the 15 August, Santa Maria is one of the most popular village feasts, and is in fact celebrated by eight villages in Malta and Gozo; Għaxaq, Gudja, Attard, Mosta, Mqabba, Qrendi, Birkirkara, and Victoria, Gozo.
Most locals travel to Gozo during Santa Maria week to make the most of the celebrations, so if you’re planning on flocking to Malta’s sister island this year, here’s what’s happening during the Santa Maria period.
13 august
Xlendi Sunset Festival
Location:Xlendi
Time: 8:30pm
A wine festival, where one can enjoy the spectacular Xlendi sunset and jam-packed line-up featuring the most popular local artists.
14-15 august
 The Gozo Traditional, Agricultural and industrial Exhibition
Location: Villa Rundle Gardens, Victoria.
If you want experience what is purely Gozitan, head to the villa Rundle gardens for the agricultural and crafts fair. You are sure to enjoy the colourful atmosphere consisting of various local, agricultural and craft produce, livestock, plants, and local food. It’s a must for those who wish to experience the island’s culture.

Marsalforn Mondays featuring live performance by Divine Sinners
Location: Marsalforn promenade
Time: 9:30pm
Whilst enjoying a dinner on the promenade of Marsalforn, enjoy local band the Divine Sinners rock out to their original music.
Marsalforn is a popular spot for Gozo visitors to spend their evening; it’s home to delicious restaurants with a sea view, a great beach, and a promenade perfect for a late evening walk.

Assumpta Fest…eku Mużikali
Location: Assumption Square, Żebbuġ
An open-air musical and vocal concert as part of the feast of assumption of the blessed virgin Mary into heaven. The Santa Maria band will be performing with the participation of guest singers.
