On Thursday 28 July, Maltese bands Cushion and Manatapu will perform at the University of Malta as part of the APS Summer Festival
Tomorrow sees a double bill performance of Cushion and Manatapu at the University of Malta. The evening takes place as part of Maltese bank APS’ Summer Festival, an annual event which each year presents musical performances and various other artistic projects.
This year features two alternative bands from Malta’s music scene, beginning first with a performance from Cushion. The group features sitar and rhythm section, as well as numerous dance and vocal elements — this performance welcoming Nadine Axisa, Julie Pomorski, Analise Cassar and Fiona Cauchi. The band describes itself as “an ensemble of cosmopolitan sounds with predominant Indian sounds”, playing a “fusion of western and eastern music with dominant sitar licks and eastern inclinations on vocal threads”.
Manatapu is a well-known mainstay on Malta’s alternative scene, performing extensively both in Malta and overseas. Featuring an international Malta-based roster of band members, lyrics in English, Maltese, Spanish and French and an eclectic range of influences spanning reggae, rock, blues, funk, folk, hip-hop and punk, Manatapu consistently deliver an engaging and energetic live show and making frequent appearances at many of the country’s main festivals.
