Gozo Film Festival Returns this August

Gozo Film Festival

Next month sees the welcome return of the Gozo Film Festival, a three-day event featuring works by local and international filmmakers

From 19 to 21 August, Victoria’s stunning Cittadella will host the Gozo Film Festival, an event now celebrating its fourth edition and featuring an eclectic range of both short and feature films from Gozitan, Maltese and international filmmakers. The 2022 edition is one eagerly-anticipated by Malta’s thriving film community, following two cancelled years owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The presentations set to feature include a pre-release screening of Brothers from Malta, a new film following the journey of two estranged brothers across California, Luzzu, the 2021 Sundance Festival Award-winner and Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, the 2002 Hollywood blockbuster starring Monica Belluci, Christian Clavier and Gérard Depardieu.

The festival takes place in the bastions of the Cittadella, offering attendees the opportunity to enjoy film screenings under the stars in the heart of the island’s picturesque capital.

In addition to the wealth of films on display, the festival will also include filmmaking workshops and various events for children.

The Gozo Film Festival 2022 is sponsored by the Cultural Heritage Directorate as part of the Ministry for Gozo.
