Exhibition Showcasing the Late Norwegian Artist Olaug Vethal

Olaug Vethal (1946–2007) was teaching both private and De La Salle College Sixth Form art lessons throughout her twenty-year stay in Malta. She spent most of her downtime painting during the summer and other moments of free time. She produced a lot of work, and among the many subjects she painted, bathers were the ones she did the most of—and she did all of her outside (or on-location) painting, not in her studio.

The exhibition is offering an exquisite collection of figurative paintings that accurately depict people in the sweltering heat of Maltese summers. And when looking out at the coastal shoreline, you won’t just see bathers—from her hometown of Sliema, but also a lot of sails, which she painted in an array of her work.

By friends and colleagues, Vethal was known as a vibrant woman who wasted no time and never took her health for granted.

The exhibition Bathers and Sails will be on display at Christine X Curated, Christine X Art Gallery on Tigné Street Sliema, from Monday through Friday, 10 am to 1 pm, and from 4 to 7 pm, and on Saturdays, 10 am to 1 pm, until August 5.
