Formidable Malta Take Control and Defeat Slovenia

Formidable Malta Take Control and Defeat Slovenia

Slovenia was no match to Malta’s Waterpolo team, succumbing with a score of 13-9 in Split. Malta has now secured their best ever placing at the European Championship to date.

Dino Zammit led Malta in scoring with a hat-trick, while Ben Plumpton, Liam Galea, Nicholas Bugelli, Matthew Zammit, and Andreas Galea also scored respectively. James Gambin and Ben Plumpton scored the other two. Near the end of the game, goalkeeper Jake Tanti turned aside a penalty, securing Malta’s win. It was Malta’s first-ever triumph in normal time (the only other victory having come against Turkey on penalties), and it will ensure the nation’s best-ever finish in the tournament.

The Maltese team will now play on Tuesday at 10.30am when they take on Germany in the play-off for 13th and 14th.
