On Friday 30 September, from 6pm–9pm, Valletta Contemporary will host the opening night of GROUNDWATERS, a new exhibition featuring works by a group of Malta-based artists and centred around the theme of outsider art

This Friday evening marks the opening of the GROUNDWATERS exhibition, which will run until 12 November and features art by Anonymous, Emma Attard, Adrian Camilleri, William Driscoll, Emma Johnson, Salvina Muscat and Joe Vassallo. The exhibition is curated by Gabriel Zammit and funded by the Malta Arts Council Project Support Scheme.

The term ‘outsider art’ is characterised as being from outside the perspective of cultural norm, in particular with regard to social or psychological convention. Many of the featured items in the exhibition explore, or are rooted in, themes such as religion, magic and ritual, and focus on the shared concept of the need for transformation of intent.

This exhibition represents a unique insight into artwork from outside established norm, as well as being an important platform to discover new and exciting works. Those interested in contemporary art would be well advised to attend the exhibition before it closes in November.

GROUNDWATERS opens this Friday 30 September at 6pm. Entrance is free. To find out more, visit the Valletta Contemporary website.
