Tomorrow Wednesday 12 October, US physics professor Sally Seidel will give a presentation at Spazju Kreattiv detailing science’s efforts to investigate and further understand subatomic physics
The field of science dealing with the smallest known building blocks of the universe — particles — has yielded incredible breakthroughs in recent years, with the discovery of the Higgs Boson particle in the early 2010s one such example. Standing in stark contrast to models of physics which helps scientists understand large-scale phenomena — the interaction between celestial bodies, for example — particle physics instead examines the interactions between the fundamental forces in existence, at the smallest level.
This week, Valletta’s Spazju Kreattiv will host an illuminating presentation by physics professor at the University of New Mexico, Sally Seidel. Ms Seidel is a Fulbright Scholar specialising in elementary particles, and has been the recipient of several prestigious awards throughout her career. The talk will discuss the scientific ramifications of new discoveries, and why our civilisation continues to explore this cutting-edge area of research.
The event takes place as part of Malta Café Scientifique — a series of regular discussions and presentations curated by the Malta Chamber of Scientists.
