This year, Malta is making an effort with a 40-song national final. PBS has officially released 30-second clips of each song participating in MESC 2023.
Eliana Gomez Blanco, who competed for Malta in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2019, Francesca Sciberras, who represented Malta in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2009, and Jessika, who represented San Marino in the 2018 edition, are among the quarterfinalists. After a break of 11 years, Fabrizio Faniello will also be making a comeback. While Anna Azzopardi has been absent for twelve years, Dominic Cini has returned after a seven-year absence. Aidan and Brooke, the previous runners-up, have also advanced past the top 40. Interestingly, Christian Arding, the first-ever Muzika Muzika champion, will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in seventeen years.
