Exploring Malta for unique and power-packed coffee

exploring malta for unique and power-packed coffee

Coffee is a much-loved and popular beverage to kickstart the day. Coffee is a versatile drink as it goes hand-in-hand with sweets and makes for the perfect excuse to get out of the house and head down to your favourite café for a relaxing catch-up with friends and family.

HISTORY

Coffee has expanded and grown astonishingly since it was first discovered. History tells us that the beloved coffee bean was discovered in either Ethiopia or Yemen. As both countries talk of myths and legends of their own, it proves to be difficult in distinguishing which country found the little bean first. History also states that the consumption of coffee first began in the mid-1500s. The beans back then were roasted and similarly prepared to how they are now.

With Malta being a small country in the Mediterranean, it comes as no surprise that it has plenty of influence from neighbouring countries and migrants who settled on the island hundreds of years ago. For the size of the island, you won’t be short in sourcing cafes as the island offers an abundance. Having an array of traditional coffee styles from Italy, Turkey, Lebanon and France to just name a few, coffee has taken an even further step and is able to be prepared with different flavours and colours. Here, we take a look at where you can discover and enjoy unique and interesting coffee blends in Malta and Gozo that still give you that nice wake-me-up kick, but also an aesthetically pleasing look.
