This summer Heritage Malta will be organising a series of  harbour cruises that will trace the history of the Great Siege of Malta and of World War II, also known as the Second Great Siege of Malta. The first one will take place on 8 June. 

The cruise, dedicated solely to World War II, will be a historical journey through the harbours flanking Valletta, the main target of the Axis air raids during the war. Matthew Balzan, Heritage Malta’s Senior Curator for Fortifications, will give a detailed explanation of the dramatic events that transformed the area between 1940 and 1943, while Prof. Timmy Gambin, who heads Heritage Malta’s Underwater Cultural Heritage Unit, will shed light on the underwater heritage that studs the seabed as a consequence of the war.

Another two cruises will take place on the 18 and 20 July.

Both cruises will immerse participants in the turbulent history of the Great Siege of Malta during the summer of 1565. Heritage Malta’s knowledgeable guides will recount some of the harshest battles and highlight strategic buildings and areas in the Grand Harbour and Marsamxett Harbour which were instrumental for the final victory. 

Tickets for each cruise are priced at €17 for adults, €15 for seniors and students, and €10 for children up to 11 years old. Heritage Malta members can buy their tickets at a discounted rate of €10 but need to present their membership card on the day.
