30 May saw day two of the 2023 GSSEs and Malta has cleaned up quite nicely. The Maltese team have managed to bag 23 medals which is beyond impressive. So far, the breakdown of the medals is as follows;
Gold – 8
Silver – 4
Bronze – 11
The opening ceremony saw 900 competing athletes with 200 of those being Maltese.
Peppijna Dalli bagged gold in her event of pole vault while Claire Azzopardi took gold in her event of long jump. Over in the men’s and females’ 10,000m event, both Lisa Marie Bezzina and Jordan Gusman took home gold.
Colette Sultana won the gold medal in her event of the women’s single squash and Katryna Esposito was the first Maltese athlete in this year’s edition of the GSSE to win gold for Malta in her sport of Judo.
Including today, there are still four more days of the Games and with such impressive results already, we cannot wait to see what else our athletes can do.
