6 Ways for kids to celebrate Halloween in Malta

Halloween wasn’t popular in Malta until about a decade ago. Many of us locals may recall being told that doing so went against christian values when we were kids. Ofcourse, locals didn’t wake up one day with a newfound collective acceptance of the spooky holiday. However, the prevalence of Western pop culture among young people cemented a place for Halloween in the local calendar, and there’s plenty of things to do for the special occasion! So, here’s 6 ways your kids can enjoy Halloween in Malta this year!

Trick or Treat

This first one is a classic; Every Halloween night, kids all around the world put on their Halloween costumes and go door to door asking for candy. Perhaps it’s the obvious choice, and maybe a bit common, but it’s a popular Halloween tradition for a reason! Not to mention, your kids get to proudly walk all over town and show off the costume you put together for them. Plus, if you find that you’re still a bit short on candy after hitting every house in your town, simply head over to the next one. However, more and more houses seem to be embracing Trick or Treating as the years go by- just make sure any and all ‘Tricks’ are harmless.

Cirque Bizarre Night at Esplora

As Malta’s Interactive Science Centre, Esplora always makes dazzling yet informative spectacle of science. This year, Halloween will see Esplora completely transformed into an extravagant circus for Cirque Bizarre Night. They’ve prepared several attractions, shows and workshops for the event. And ofcourse, they’ll be sticking to their brand of blending the magical with the educational. Several experts have been invited for the activities, ranging from the fields of alchemy to that of herpetology. Not to mention, they have a few more surprises (and sweets) up their sleeves! Cirque Bizarre Night will start at 6 pm and end at 10 pm. Get your tickets here before they run out! If you don’t manage, a more lowkey version of the event will run from November 1 to November 5.

Playmobil Halloween Party

The Playmobil FunPark in Birzebbuga will be back with another edition of their Spooktacular Pumpkin Carving Halloween party. The event will be complete with pumpkin carving, some Halloween-themed games, their own version of Trick or Treat, and a raffle with prizes such as vouchers to be won! All kids will be treated to a meal of their choosing, either chicken nuggets with chips, pizza margherita, or pasta with red sauce. And, to wash it down, either water or orange squash. Plus, their decorations and smoke machine will immerse your kids into the Halloween  experience. The event will take place both on Monday 30 October and Tuesday 31 Octobers. Tickets can be purchased here.

Zabbar Halloween Lantern Festival

The Zabbar Halloween Lantern Festival is set to return for a third edition at Biċċieni Alleys and the adjacent squares on Saturday 28 October. This event has something for everybody regardless of age, but kids can enjoy a bouncy castle, trampolines, and trick or treating. In the meantime, parents can have a drink at the bar or hit the Halloween Costume Street Party and enjoy the musical stylings of DJ Domnic and Commander Jay. Better yet, impress your kids by destroying the Jack-O Lantern competition! At the end of the night, you can make some memories in the Creepy Family Photo Booth. Not to mention, entry is free of charge!

Popeye Haunted Village

Inspired by the Original Popeye Comics, Popeye Village is a staple Maltese attraction in Mellieha. The festivities will include animation and puppet shows, Halloween-themed dances, a Halloween parade, Trick or Treating, a face-painting station, mini golf, an obstacle course, and many more specialised activities! The event lasts from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Halloween Workshops at Vincent's Eco Estate

Vincent’s Eco Estate is an organic farm located in Mgarr. This Halloween, on Saturday 28 October and Sunday 29 October, it will be collaborating with Arts and Crafts Malta to bring you Spooktacular Halloween Fun. Simply have your pick from one of the many workshops that will take place throughout the event, some of which are open to teens and adults as well, and you’re in for a day of fun. Attendees can get their face painted by an artist, make scary crafts from miscellaneous materials, learn how to pull off pranks, and much more! Mosta dome

Being at sea level, the site is subject to flooding and though there have been attempts to drain the area for agriculture, seasonal flooding, brackish groundwater and exposure to salt-laden grigal gales, rendered it unusable. Reverted to the wild, a dense thicket of tamarisk formed, to which an olive grove was later added.

The restoration works began in 1992. A network of pools, canals and islands were created, trees were planted and the area was fenced off to reduce disturbance.
