8th edition of Nadur Garmin 10K run
The Nadur Garmin 10K run, formerly known as the The Nadur Gambin 8K run, returns for an 8th edition on Sunday, December 17. The Organising Team announced that they will be deviating from the usual distance of 8K this year, instead holding a 10K race and 5K race.
The event is organised by the Nadur Local Council, in partnership with Garmin Malta and Athletix Gozo, making it the biggest sporting event hosted by a Local Council in Gozo. It is held every year around this time, attracting hundreds of participants of all ages who brave the cold to take part. In addition to the 10K and 5K, there will be two races for kids; The 2K for 8 to 15 year olds, and the 500m for 3 to 7 year olds. The event will begin with the 10K race at 8.30 am, followed by the 5K race ten minutes later, the 500m race, and the 2K race.
The 10K route is a fast and scenic one, consisting of two loops of 5K which start and finish at the Nadur Village Square. The route was meticulously chosen by active runners and volunteers who aim to elevate the event with each instalment. The Nadur Local Council has also ensured that the necessary documentation is handled with regards to Health and Safety. Moreover, water stations will be available at the 5K mark for all those participating in the 10k Run, as well as at the end of the 5K, 2K, and 500m races.
This year, there is a record number of 52 trophies to be won in each category. What’s more, a custom-made commemorative token sketched by artist Victor Agius, and then designed by Matthew Axiaq, will be awarded to all participants; “The medal for this year’s edition event illustrates the spirit of the locality’s identity through the radiant light of the rising sun on our ultramarine mediterranean hues. It also references the agricultural heritage of the picturesque fertile valleys that adorn Nadur which are famous for their citrus.”
If you’re interested in taking part, you have until Saturday, December 9, to make up your mind. To apply, visit www.nadur10k.com. Registration costs €18 for the 10K and 5K, and €10 for the 2K and 500m. The event concludes at 12 pm. If you have any questions, simply contact the Nadur Local Council here.
