Inaugural Concert at the Oratory of the Onorati

January 13 marks the official inauguration for the Oratory of the Onorati in Valletta. To commemorate the day, the Jesuits Church Foundation is inviting the public to a short concert under the distinguished patronage of His Grace Mgr Charles Jude Scicluna, the Archbishop of Malta.

Built in 1613, and subsequently remodelled by architect Francesco Buonamici between 1657-59, the Oratory has been restored to its full glory and is now being used as a liturgical and cultural space. Although the Oratory was first used on St Cecilia’s Day on the 22nd of November 2023, this concert will celebrate the completion of the restoration project with a brand new work commissioned by the Jesuits Church Foundation especially for the occasion.

A brand new work titled ‘Vita Beatae Mariae Virginis’ for three sopranos and organ has been especially composed for the occasion by Alexander Vella Gregory, the Foundation’s Artistic Director. The work takes its inspiration from the cycle of 7 paintings by Stefano and Alessio Erardi. It will be performed by sopranos Marouska Attard, Dorothy Baldacchino, and Mariette Borg, with the composer at the continuo.

The concert begins at 7 pm, after which refreshments will be served at the Sacristy. The event is open to anybody – Entrance is free but donations are welcome!
