Malta Lands 9th Spot Among the Top 10 most Searched Countries For Travel in 2023

Here’s some great news for our island nation! Annually, Google compiles its ‘Year in Search’ data, providing insights into the most popular user queries throughout the year. Topping the list of most Googled countries in 2023 was Greece in the first place, followed by Spain, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Cyprus,Thailand, Egypt, Malta, and Morocco, as reported by Conde Nast Traveler, a destination guide website featuring travel reviews.

Regarding Malta, the revered publication noted, “This island is a hit European destination. Its history runs deep, and its beauty runs deeper. The country has been used as the backdrop for many iconic films and TV series (Gladiator, Game of Thrones and Troy, to name a few), but beyond its honey-hued streets lies restaurants, bars and hotels waiting to be explored.” It also added a list of top restaurants to visit in Valletta, including ION by Simon Rogan, Risette and The Harbour Club.

Rhodes, a Greek island with its capital of the same name (Rhodes Town), claimed the title of the most Googled travel city/island of 2023.
