Prepare to see Mdina, Rabat and Mtarfa like you never have before! The Malta Tourism Authority extends an invitation to join “The British Military Walk,” a two-day adventure taking place today Saturday, 27 January , and Sunday, 28 January.

This unique route promises to reveal the rich historical, architectural, and natural wonders nestled within the charming localities of Mdina, Rabat, and Mtarfa, all with a knowledgeable guide.

Starting from the historic Domus Romana, the route leads you through the medieval heart of Mdina, the vibrant centre of Rabat, and the significant historical sites of Mtarfa before circling back to Rabat. This journey lays bare remnants from the British period, medieval arches, and various architectural gems.

Highlights along the way include traversing the fortified gates of Mdina and exploring iconic structures such as Palazzo Falzon. Walkers will uncover the rich history of Mdina’s main square, featuring the impressive cathedral. Encounters with the former Courts of Justice, the Xara Palace, and the National Museum of Natural History within the Vilhena Palace provide insights into the diverse historical uses of these fascinating buildings.

Moving beyond Mdina, a pause at Howard Gardens precedes the venture into Rabat, with stops at the Parish Church of St. Paul’s Shipwreck, St. Paul’s Grotto, and the Wignacourt Museum. The journey then progresses towards Mtarfa, revealing British military architecture, a unique clock tower, and a scenic countryside route.

As walkers arrive at Mtarfa, landmarks such as the isolation hospital, the clock tower, and the military barracks unfold. The exploration continues through streets echoing with British military history, including the historically significant Triq Sir Leslie Rundle.
