Tough Draw for Malta in UEFA Nations League: Can they Rise to the Challenge?

Malta draws against Moldova and Andorra in 2024-25 UEFA Nations League

The Malta national football team faces a challenging campaign in the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League after being drawn against Moldova and Andorra in Group D2.

Moldova, known for their resilience in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, secured ten points in their group, including wins over Faroe Islands and Poland. Andorra, whom Malta faced in the 2020 qualifiers, joins them in the group.

Each team will play four matches, home and away, with the top two in League D earning automatic promotion to League C.

Malta Football Association President Bjorn Vassallo acknowledged the tough draw but expressed confidence in the team’s ability to aim for promotion. Team manager Michele Marcolini echoed this sentiment, noting the team’s growth and increased performance level.

Vassallo stated, “From all possible scenarios, we were handed the toughest one,” but emphasised the team’s goal of promotion. Marcolini expressed confidence, stating, “I remain confident on the chance to be promoted.”
