'Giulietta - An Auction Through Time': A refreshing and exciting new play performing this February
Left to Right: Sarah Vella as Susannah and Kelly Peplow as Giulietta
‘Busli Collective’, a new but extremely experienced and driven theatrical collective, is premiering its first theatre piece ‘Giulietta’ this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (the 16th, 17th and 18th of February respectively)
Written and directed by Rowena Zammit, ‘Giulietta’ focuses on an auction that is taking place in real-time. The items being sold at the auction are artefacts that Giulietta once owned. The show’s narrator will reveal treasures to audiences that long ago, were cherished and loved by the titular character. The timeline of the performance will transition between the present and the past, allowing the audience to dive deep into the life of Giulietta whilst also showing how each beloved artefact sold at the auction played a role in her life and how they made Giulietta, Giulietta. This will allow the audience to travel through time whilst seeing glimpses of Giulietta’s unknown memories and untold story.
The transitions of time throughout the play will help evoke a sense of nostalgia amongst audiences, providing them the opportunity to experience Giulietta’s world on a deeper level. Through this, audiences will be able to uncover a greater understanding of who Giulietta was and what she experienced whilst she was still alive.
The show includes aspects of Romeo and Juliet so audiences who love Shakespeare’s romantic, comedic or tragic stories, are sure to love this new and revamped piece of theatre.

Whilst watching Giulietta, audiences will learn that the titular character was indeed the architect of her own fate. As mentioned, the performance will combine aspects of the classic Romeo and Juliet tale whilst showing audiences that the tragic end we all know, wasn’t what was originally thought.
Proudly showing off a strongly female-dominated cast, Giulietta will not challenge the preconceptions of what feminism does and promotes, but instead, aims to transcend them. Some of the common misconceptions surrounding feminism are that “feminists want fights between the sexes”, “all feminists are women”, “feminism is no longer needed” and “feminists hate men”, to briefly name a few. Giulietta will help open the eyes of its audiences and remind them of the reality of the world that we live in. That in which women are still being objectified, creating the need for them to have no other choice but to fight for their rights and for genders to be seen as equal (as genders, to this day, are still far from that).
The show’s cast sees;
Kelly Peplow as Giulietta, Sarah Vella as Susannah (the nurse’s daughter), Sarah Amato as Emilia (Giulietta’s descendant) and Michael Farrugia as Romeo.
Be sure to book your tickets here to ensure your seat is reserved and not miss out on this revamped, refreshing and exciting show with a highly talented cast and artistic team.

The Busli Collective is a new theatre collective which first broke into the scene (as a collective) in the final quarter of 2023. It began with two young Maltese artists, Rowena Zammit and Michael Farrugia. The creative duo first met at MCAST, as they were both studying in the B. A (Hons.) Performing Arts Course.
For non-Maltese speakers, the collective’s name ‘Busli’, is Maltese slang for the English term ‘kiss my’. A cheeky yet effective name that makes reference to the collective’s desire to create fresh and revamped theatre that causes audiences to deeply think and question both what they are watching in front of them as well as the world around them. Busli aims to do this through their unapologetic statements and tongue-in-cheek humour.
