George Fenech Art Museum and Gallery Opens Its Doors to Public

The George Fenech Art Museum and Gallery announces its official opening, welcoming art enthusiasts and the local community to join on an artistic experience, led by the vision and dedication of the Fenech family.

Solely established through the unwavering endeavour of the family of the late artist George Fenech (1926 – 2011), this building celebrates the artist’s legacy whilst offering visitors a diverse collection of artworks, spanning over the decades capturing the essence of Fenech’s artistic evolution. The over 100 permanent artworks being exhibited, in fact promise an enriching experience for art enthusiasts and casual observers alike. 

The exhibits guide visitors through George Fenech’s artistic journey, starting from his early days at the Malta Government School of Art in Valletta, then continuing to the Academia di Belle Arti in Rome, and finally, his return to Malta to establish his own studio. The visitor will tour Fenech’s roles as both a family man and an art teacher, examining how these aspects influenced his artistic growth through the various paintings. The Museum also showcases a wide range of genres that Fenech painted, including still-lifes, portraits, landscapes, group compositions, folklore, religious themes, and his work in printing and stamp design across various mediums. As part of the experience, visitors will have the opportunity to explore a recreation of the artist’s studio, complete with original items, providing a glimpse into Fenech’s environment.

Named in honour of the esteemed artist George Fenech, the museum and gallery aim to provide a welcoming space for individuals to explore and appreciate the beauty of his art. With a focus of establishing itself as a new cultural space, the Art Museum and Gallery is dedicated to celebrating the legacy of artist George Fenech whilst providing a platform for artists to showcase their work.
