Catch the new play ‘Sisyphean Quick Fix’ at Theatre Next Door between 13-16 June, 2024!

This heartfelt and humorous comedy-drama dives into the complexities of addiction and its impact on families. Follow sisters Krista (in London) and Pip (in Malta) as they confront the harsh reality of their father’s drinking problem. The play highlights the strains and triumphs of caring for a loved one and the challenges faced by migrants dealing with family issues back home.

Directed by the talented Nicky Allpress—praised by The Guardian for her “slick production” of Neil Labute’s The Shape of Things—and co-produced by Vikesh Godhwani, who recently directed the sold-out hit ‘Mid-Djarju Ta’ Student Fi Skola tal-Knisja’ by Jamie Cardona, ‘Sisyphean Quick Fix’ is set to make a splash in Malta before heading to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe at the Pleasance this August.

Featuring stellar performances by Bettina Paris and Tina Rizzo, ‘Sisyphean Quick Fix’ marks Paris’s debut as a playwright. Four years in the making, the play has been nurtured by top new writing hubs in London like Theatre503 and the Omnibus Theatre.

Expect amazing sound design by Matteo Depares, stunning set design by Matthew Cassar, and brilliant lighting by Chris Gatt. The play is also a proud winner of the Keep it Fringe fund, chosen from 749 applications. This initiative is led by the incredible Phoebe Waller-Bridge, honourary President of the Fringe Society.

Bettina Paris shared “Sisyphean Quick Fix came from a want to give a voice to the multiple causalities of the disease by putting those living with a person struggling with addiction at the centre of the story, whilst sharing a message of hope for the future, especially for those in similar situations, in the sisters’ united compassion.”

In a special collaboration with Aġenzija Sedqa—Malta’s primary agency for preventing drug and alcohol abuse—each performance will be followed by a Q&A with a representative from Aġenzija Sedqa and Paris. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the play’s themes and the resources available to families dealing with similar challenges. Don’t miss out!
