Watch: First Gladiator II Trailer Drops with Malta as Its Backdrop
From the legendary Ridley Scott, get ready to be blown away by the official trailer for Gladiator II! Featuring a star-studded cast including Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, and Fred Hechinger, this epic film hits theatres on 22 November 2024.
Much of Gladiator II was filmed right here in Malta. In January, over 33,000 locals flocked to the â€˜Ä urnata Ma tal-Films’ event, where they got a sneak peek of the incredible sets. These are the very sets you’ll recognise in the jaw-dropping trailer released on Tuesday.
The trailer is a feast for the eyes, packed with fierce battles, political intrigue, and, of course, gladiators fighting for their lives in the arena. Set decades after the original Gladiator, the sequel follows Lucius Verus (Paul Mescal), the nephew of the late Emperor Commodus. Remember him? He’s the villain from the first film who met his end thanks to Russell Crowe’s Maximus.
Slated for a November release, Gladiator II makes its grand entrance nearly 25 years after the first film captivated audiences. This week’s trailer drop follows the release of official stills on Monday, giving fans their first look at the stunning return to Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winning Roman epic.
Pedro Pascal stars as the Roman general Marcus Acacius, while Denzel Washington takes on the role of the formidable slave owner Macrinus. The trailer also offers glimpses of Tim McInnerny and Derek Jacobi, adding even more star power to the cast.
The arena scenes promise to be even more ambitious than those in the original Gladiator. One spectacular scene features a battle between a fleet of ships, suggesting a story that’s even more expansive and epic than before.
So, prepare yourselves for a cinematic adventure filmed in the heart of Malta. Gladiator II is set to deliver an unforgettable journey through ancient Rome, brought to life by the stunning landscapes and vibrant culture of Malta. This is one epic sequel you won’t want to miss!
