Experience the Joy of Maltese Village Feasts This August
If you have caught sight of fireworks, heard loud bangs early in the morning, or seen plenty of colourful street decorations you might be wondering what they are! Village feasts, commonly known as “festi,” are an essential part of the Maltese summer experience. While these celebrations occur year-round, the summer months, particularly August, are when the ‘festi’ season truly comes alive. This month alone, over 30 feasts will be held across the Maltese Islands, each dedicated to a patron saint and offering a unique mix of tradition, culture, and life on the islands.
Attending a feast is a fantastic way to throw yourself into Maltese culture. Whether you’re sampling traditional food, enjoying live music from the local marching band, or marveling at the stunning fireworks displays, there’s something for everyone.Â
Here’s a rundown of all the village feasts happening this August, perfect for planning your visit and soaking up the truly festive atmosphere. Don’t leave the islands without soaking up one of these events!
