Twilight's Kristen Stewart Set to Make Her Directorial Debut in Malta
Kristen Stewart is ready to add ‘director’ to her already impressive list of accomplishments, and she’s chosen the stunning island of Malta as the backdrop for her first feature film.
The Hollywood star was recently spotted enjoying the local cuisine at Risette, a chic restaurant in the heart of Valletta, sending fans and locals into a frenzy.
Famous for her role in the Twilight saga—a five-film phenomenon that took the world by storm—Stewart is now stepping behind the camera. She’s set to direct an adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir, The Chronology of Water. This move marks her shift away from Hollywood to embrace a European vibe, with Malta stealing a bit of the spotlight.
Though most of the film will be shot in Latvia, where the sets will transform into American cities like New York and San Diego, Malta will bring its unique Mediterranean charm to key scenes.
The film dives deep into intense and challenging subjects, including the trauma of childhood sexual abuse, the complexities of queer identity, and the struggles of addiction. It also explores themes of unconventional relationships and self-discovery, all through a raw and unfiltered lens. It’s no surprise that it took seven years for this bold and unconventional project to secure funding, but now, Stewart’s long-awaited dream is finally becoming a reality.
After years of persistence, Stewart’s film is finally coming to life, and Maltese couldn’t be more excited to play a role in what promises to be a truly groundbreaking film!
